Which way from here

Hello and Happy 2010.

I started this blog in March 07 (shit), and its focus has shifted over these 3 years. In the first couple months it was standard blog stuff: long and poorly-written posts about sports, TV shows, and some goofy humor pieces. Since then, this has become my forum to think about my reading, as well as a place to expend way too much energy poring over Mad Men episodes. While I’ve enjoyed writing my book reviews, I suspect these hold no interest for anyone else. But my intention on starting this blog wasn’t to hear myself talk about J.M. Coetzee or Jon Hamm’s performance — it was for the writing. And for awhile, it was; I even had one of my NaNos up for public consumption. But then I glanced back and got so disgusted I purged this blog of every bit of fiction writing I’ve done.

Now it’s 2010, and I’ve got megabytes of stories sitting in folders, not being read. So starting today, I’m going to salvage and post the more interesting of these pieces. The publication schedule will be 3 times a week, M-W-F. I hope you’ll find something to like, or at the very least reassure yourself that I’m not just playing flash games when I claim I’m writing.

Somebody get the christening fluid.

I’m horrendous at naming things. Truly terrible – back in highschool, when I was known as a creative sort, I could only shrug when asked to come up with group names. I have never given anybody a really great nickname, while my brother off-handedly decided the fate of William Longano’s name for years to come. My suggestions for the names of our two dogs were flat-awful.

So you can imagine my difficulty in naming this thing, though I suspect Bailin will approve. But, decisions must be made, and this is what I’ve got.

The reason for this blog’s existence is the same as every iteration of my website – a place to put writing and shit. Nothing too tricky, which is why I always slipped when maintaining my own site – it’s a real pain in the ass to make HTML pages every time you want to upload a story that will embarrass you within a month. Which makes this wordpress business appealing… hopefully I’ll do better here.

The content to follow will be related to these topics: basketball, writing, books, and scathing indictments of the hollywood elite. I’m really going to take those Scientologists to task!
